Montessori Project

Children’s Global Network – Pakistan (CGN-P) with the support of Prime Minister’s Educational Reform Program envisages to make Montessori Classes available for the people living in the rural sectors of Islamabad. The aim is to introduce successful running Montessori Classes with the help of Govt. of Pakistan in the public schools of Islamabad so that in the rural areas, where education is being neglected day by day, people understand the importance of formal education and emphasis in laid on the timing of schooling years as well. Montessori classes aim to strengthen the base of a child and develop his/her interest in education at a very young age so that lower drop-out rates are seen in the future.

Prime Minister’s Educational Reforms Program selected 20 schools of Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) for the first phase of the Montessori Project. The schools were partnered with the different organizations in Islamabad including private schools like Head Start School System, Beaconhouse School System and Roots School System. CGN-P with its vast and extensive experience in primary education was also asked to join in with the rest of the private schools.

CGN-P opted for 5 schools in the rural areas because of its focus towards the rural and marginalized segment of the society.

The following schools are involved in the first phase of the project:

  1. IMS Tarnol (Tarnol Sector)
  2. IMS D-17 (Tarnol Sector)
  3. IMS Thanda Pani (Nilore Sector)
  4. IMSG Nilore (Nilore Sector)
  5. IMSG Humak (Sihala Sector)

 CGN-P is in charge of running the Montessori Classes in the selected schools and provides continuous support to the school so as to ensure smooth running of the program. Through the project, an untapped market of students is being accessed and enrolled in the schools.

CGN-P aims to tap in all the Developmental Domains of a child and has created an extensive methodology which aligns with the National Early Childhood Education Curriculum of Pakistan. The methodology targets the holistic development of a child that empowers them to be healthy, physically and mentally sharp and socially and emotionally sound.

The methodology used in the Montessori Classes of Govt. schools of Islamabad is there to counter the increasing dropout rates in these schools.

Through the Montessori Classes, the child enrolled is engaged in various activities that are beneficial for their development. The classes held in Govt. schools are free of charge and the people residing in the areas benefit from the best curriculum available in Pakistan.

As mentioned, the Montessori Classes are only being introduced in the rural areas by CGN-P. Rural areas of Islamabad are at-risk areas that receive little or no support especially when it comes to education. CGN-P with the help of PM Education Reforms Program aims to change the status quo. With the intervention in rural areas, more number of people will receive quality education and will start at an age where normally parents are in doubt to whether invest in education or gain small returns if a child is sent out to work.

Expected Outcome

With the methodology used by CGN-P, the expected outcomes of the entire program are as follows:

  • Physical and mental development of children
  • Enhanced cognitive abilities due to scientifically approved techniques
  • Methodology that captures the interest of students of 3-5 years ensuring future enrollment in schools
  • Reduction in the dropout ratios
  • Training of teachers on Montessori courses
  • Schools being equipped with functioning Montessori Class
  • Awareness regarding ECED practices
  • A small yet strong step towards public schools’ involvement in Early Childhood Education
  • Rural area development
  • Public schools being equipped enough to reach the level of private schools
